On Tuesday afternoon during the Armed Forces Bowl we had the opportunity to talk with Houston Cougars Coach Kevin Sumlin about life and his goals with the team.

This will be the second time this year that both team will meet each other. The game was previously schudeled in Houston. It was relocated to Dallas because of Hurricane Ike.

According to University of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin, all the commotion surrounding the previous matchup makes nothing about Wednesday’s game — not the 11 a.m. kickoff, not the days spent in Fort Worth and certainly not the rematch aspect — a big deal for the Cougars.

“If anything, we’re experienced at staying in a hotel for a week and playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,” said Sumlin, laughing at the memory. “We ought to at least know what to do.”

Fans were a bit more agitated when the Armed Forces Bowl pairing was announced. Message boards practically melted down as fans vented over the rehashing of a regular-season game. They wanted Notre Dame or a Big 12 team. Anyone, really, except a rematch.

It’s hardly the first time a bowl has featured a matchup between teams that squared off in the regular season. And turn-the-table results are fairly common.

Good Luck Coach Sumlin and thanks for taking the time to talk with us.
