January 14, 2009 02:44 PM PST
New from the author of
THE 4 DAY DIET IAN K. SMITH, M.D.
Like his #1 bestselling Fat Smash Diet, Dr. Ian Smith’s new book, THE 4 DAY DIET, is sure to be the must-have book for anyone with a New Year’s resolution to lose weight. What really sets THE 4 DAY DIET apart from other diets is Dr. Ian’s emphasis on the mental component of weight loss, or “Mind Over Fat.” As the diet expert on Celebrity Fit Club, the creator of the national weight loss initiative The 50 Million Pound Challenge, and through work with thousands of dieters across the country, Dr. Ian has learned that the most critical part of weight loss success is mental preparation. Losing weight is 80 percent mental and 20 percent physical, as Dr. Ian says, and people need to “train their brain” to take on one of life’s toughest journeys. THE 4-DAY DIET program is broken down into 4-day “modules,” so it’s much more effective and easier to stick with. Here’s why:
Dr. Ian designed THE 4-DAY DIET so you can customize your own program. After the first two modules—detox, to purify accumulated toxins in the body, and transition, to gradually reintroduce certain foods—you can do the remaining 5 in whichever order suits your schedule or preferences or you can repeat the modules you like best:
With charts, questionnaires, mental exercises, and more than sixty recipes, THE 4-DAY DIET helps anyone diet SMARTER, and stay motivated to achieve their weight loss goals and maintain them. With over twenty years of experience watching how and why dieters lose weight—and how they don’t—Dr. Ian has developed a remarkably effective program that anyone can stay on for life.

On today show we had the opportunity to speak with one of my favorite comedian Sinbad. A hardworking funnyman whose clean, family friendly persona and animated antics have endeared him into the hearts of dedicated fans worldwide, Sinbad has worked tirelessly to rise to the top of the standup circuit, finding success in both television and film in addition to his popular stage act. We talked about life growing up as a Preachers Kid and his favorite gospel artist. Sinbad shared his thoughts on Barack Obama as the 44th President of the USA. This weekend in Nashville Sinbad will co-host gospel music to awards show the Stellars with Donnie McClurkin and Dorinda Clark Cole. For more info about the Stellars visit www.rushmoredrive.com You can also watch the show on online by visiting the website. Meanwhile here's some general information on Sinbad. A special thank you goes out to www.starpulse.com for the information. Born David Adkins on November 18, 1956, in Benton Harbor, MI, the energetic youngster spent much of his youth entertaining his three brothers and two sisters and refining his unique sense of humor. A passion for basketball and the Harlem Globetrotters won the red-haired youth (affectionately christened "Red" Chamberlain by his teammates) a basketball scholarship to the University of Denver, but a knee injury later sidelined his professional sports aspirations. Turning back to his humorous instincts, Sinbad hit the road for his "Poverty Tour," working the comedy circuits while taking the Greyhound from city to city and living hand-to-mouth. Adapting the moniker of a legend that embodied the spirit of strength, adventure, and optimism symbolized all that the hardworking comedian aspired to be. Putting his faith in God and his ability to make others laugh paid off, and following seven appearances on Star Search the now-established Sinbad was given his television break by comedy legend Redd Foxx. Playing Foxx's son on The New Redd Foxx show in the mid-'80s found the aspiring actor expanding his talents, and though the show didn't last long, it did bring said talents to the attention of yet another comedy legend, Bill Cosby. Following a few other television appearances, Sinbad joined the cast of Cosby Show spin-off A Different World in 1987. Concurrently serving as host for It's Showtime at the Apollo continued his career momentum on the right track, and before long he had developed his own television show, Sinbad and Friends All the Way Live...Almost.

Hello to all gospel music lovers, We thank you for taking the moment to listen to this podcast. I have contact some friends from South Carolina (Reggie Dyson), North Carolina (Wesley Johnson) and Virginia (Grace Rhodes) to talk about the Superstar Tommy Ellison. He began his career singing background for gospel music great Madame Edna Gallmon Cooke. He sang with the world famous Harmonizing Four. He can be heard singing lead on the Harmonizing Four’s version of “I Found The Lord,” which was recorded during the early fifties.
Tommy later joined The Sensational Nightingales where he further enhanced and cultivated the vocal talent God had bestowed upon him. After spending three years with The Nightingales, Tommy journeyed to Los Angeles where he joined forces with The Chosen Gospel Singers. During his time with the group, they recorded the hit “When The Saints Go Marching In.”
The Salley native was lead vocalist of the gospel quartet Tommy Ellison & The Singing Stars for decades. He died Saturday in Baltimore at age 75. Part singer, part preacher and a full-time evangelist, the spiritual word would come out of Ellison’s mouth in pleading tones, harmonic vocal runs and, when the spirit really hit him, screeches. “All of his performances were energetic and stimulating,” said I.S. Leevy Johnson, Ellison’s local attorney and close friend. “He had a distinct style that blended good music and a good message.” A public viewing and musical tribute will be held Saturday at Brookland Baptist Church, 1066 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia, and there will be plenty of gospel music, sung with soul. The Canton Spirituals, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, The Swanee Quintet, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson and The Original Drifters are scheduled to perform. “It wasn’t just his music. It’s the way he was,” she said. “He never met a stranger. “When he got to shows, he didn’t sit on the bus. He would sit with the audience.” For Coleman, it’s simple why Ellison didn’t follow Brown, Franklin and Cooke into pop music. “He realized (gospel) was the ministry that God has given him to do,” she said. On Tuesday afternoon during the Armed Forces Bowl we had the opportunity to talk with Houston Cougars Coach Kevin Sumlin about life and his goals with the team. This will be the second time this year that both team will meet each other. The game was previously schudeled in Houston. It was relocated to Dallas because of Hurricane Ike. According to University of Houston coach Kevin Sumlin, all the commotion surrounding the previous matchup makes nothing about Wednesday’s game — not the 11 a.m. kickoff, not the days spent in Fort Worth and certainly not the rematch aspect — a big deal for the Cougars. “If anything, we’re experienced at staying in a hotel for a week and playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,” said Sumlin, laughing at the memory. “We ought to at least know what to do.” Fans were a bit more agitated when the Armed Forces Bowl pairing was announced. Message boards practically melted down as fans vented over the rehashing of a regular-season game. They wanted Notre Dame or a Big 12 team. Anyone, really, except a rematch. It’s hardly the first time a bowl has featured a matchup between teams that squared off in the regular season. And turn-the-table results are fairly common. Good Luck Coach Sumlin and thanks for taking the time to talk with us. Cedric Bailey

On Sunday December 28th I had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Tim Simmons about the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. Two of the nation’s top offensive teams with a Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl history will be facing each other for the second-time this season on a neutral field as the University of Houston will meet the United States Air Force Academy here on New Year’s Eve at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Both teams will be seeking their first bowl win at Amon G. Carter Stadium December 31 as the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will be aired live on ESPN starting at 11 a.m. (CST). An ESPN Regional Television (ERT) owned-and-operated event, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will match schools from Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference for the second-time after Utah defeated Tulsa 25-13 in the 2006 contest. Air Force won the initial meeting this season between the two teams with a 31-28 victory over the Cougars as the September 13 game was moved from Houston to SMU’s Ford Stadium due to Hurricane Ike. The Falcons rushed for 380 yards in jumping to a 31-7 lead in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Houston sophomore quarterback Case Keenum passed for three touchdowns in the final 20 minutes of the contest as the second-year starter from Abilene, Texas, accounted for all four scores and 437 total yards against Air Force (75 rushing and 362 passing). For the second-straight year, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will feature a first year mentor as Kevin Sumlin replaced Art Briles as the 12th head coach in Houston history and the first African-American to lead the Cougar program. Sumlin was an assistant coach at Texas A&M (2001-2002) and Oklahoma (2003-2007) the previous seven seasons. With a 7-5 record, Houston will be playing in its fifth bowl game in the last six seasons. Defeating both teams that competed in the 2008 Conference USA title game, the Cougars posted a 6-2 league mark. Houston opened C-USA play with a 41-24 win at East Carolina as Keenum passed for 401 yards and three touchdowns. In a 70-30 victory over Tulsa, Keenum passed for 402 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for one score against the Golden Hurricane. Keenum out-performed Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell in 2008 to lead the nation in passing yardage as the Cougar connected on 375 of 554 passes for 4,993 yards and 43 touchdowns. Harrell completed more passes (406), but had only 4,747 passing yards and 41 touchdown passes. Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford (4,464 yards, 48 TDs) and Texas’s Colt McCoy 94,021, 32) trailed Keenum in passing yards this season. With an 8-4 record, Air Force has now posted back-to-back winning records for the first-time since the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Three of the Falcon losses in 2008 were to schools (Utah, TCU and BYU) ranked among the top 25 teams on the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings. The fourth setback was to bowl bound Navy. The Air Force resurgence is led by Coach Troy Calhoun, who replaced Fisher DeBerry as only the sixth coach in the 53-season history of Air Force football. A 1989 graduate of the Academy, Calhoun has now compiled a 17-8 record at Air Force in one-plus seasons as he has now matched DeBerry in leading the Falcons to bowl games in their first two seasons. Meanwhile Lt. Col. Greg Gadson, who lost both legs to a bomb in Iraq and has served as an inspiration for the XLII Super Bowl champions, will be the featured speaker at 2008 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Kickoff Luncheon presented by Armed Forces Insurances and the Omni Fort Worth Hotel here December 30 in the ballroom at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Credited by Michael Strahan for the New York Giant’s turnaround when he accepted the 2008 ESPY Award for “Biggest Upset” in May, Lt. Col. Gadson was named an honorary captain and given a Super Bowl XLII ring. At the request of President George W. Bush, Lt. Col. Gadson was one of seven U.S. delegates in the 2008 Paralympics Games in Beijing (pictured to the right). A member of the Second Battalion and 32nd Field Artillery, Lt. Col. Gadson follows Chad Hennings as a former service academy football player and military veteran to be the featured speaker at the 2008 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Kickoff Luncheon presented by Armed Forces Insurances and the Omni Fort Worth Hotel to honor the participating teams from the United States Air Force Academy and the University of Houston. In closing the Fort Worth Dunbar community are very proud of Mr. Phillip Hunt. Hunt leads the league with 12 sacks and is third with 16.5 tackles for loss, numbers that earned him the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year award.Phillip has been select to play in the East West Shrine game on January 17. We are very proud of Phillip for staying focused on his college education at the University of Houston. We are praying that he will be drafted by the NFL. Thanks for listening to this podcast. IRVING, Texas - For all those conspiracy theorists who believe the NFL is out to get Baltimore -- especially after Sunday's controversial finish -- tomorrow night won't change your mind. As the Ravens make their final push toward the playoffs, they must overcome another roadblock laid down by the league. The Ravens (9-5) play the Dallas Cowboys (9-5) in the final game scheduled at Texas Stadium, a situation where it is usually tough to pull out a victory. Since the close of the 1996 season, teams are 11-2 in the last regular-season games at their old stadiums before relocating to new ones. "We're not too concerned about their history or their tradition," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "We respect it and it's neat for them. We know what we got at stake for our team."
Though there's no scenario in which the Ravens can clinch a postseason berth this weekend, they can reach the playoffs by upsetting Dallas tonight and beating the Jacksonville Jaguars at home eight days later. A Ravens loss coupled with wins by two of the three teams battling for the AFC East lead -- the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins or New England Patriots -- would put the Ravens one game behind them for the last wild-card spot heading into the final week of the regular season. "We're not getting caught up in all of this thing that Dallas wants to do because they're closing the stadium," linebacker Ray Lewis said. "That [doesn't] have anything to do with us. We're the Ravens, they're the Cowboys. Let them take care of that. Our job is to go win a 60-minute ballgame and set up the game against Jacksonville, come home and try to get in the dance." The Ravens understand they can't let another game like Sunday's 13-9 loss slip through their grasp or put themselves in a position where an official's reversal from replay could cost them. But the Ravens' first trip to Texas Stadium -- they're the only current NFL team not to have played there -- will be a tough one. When a team closes a stadium, it's difficult for the visitors to beat the emotional atmosphere. When a team closes a historic stadium like this one, it has been nearly impossible. In the past 12 seasons, the NFL has said goodbye to Baltimore's Memorial Stadium, Washington's RFK Stadium, Denver's Mile High Stadium, Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium and Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium. Not only has each home team left with a win, but the margin of victory has been 18.4 points. "[This game] will be very important to the organization and to the fans," Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said. "We're going into it, obviously, hoping not to end anything on a sour note at the stadium that's got so many great memories. It's been an inspiration to any of those young guys who have come in to play here to look at the tradition and see what players have [done], where certain people were at this point or did this here. It's just really exciting when you look at it." During the game, the Cowboys will count down the five most memorable moments at Texas Stadium from 1971 to 2008. In a post-game ceremony, nearly 100 former players and coaches -- including 10 members of the Ring of Honor -- will be introduced and take one last walk across the star at midfield. "It's going to be a circus atmosphere, bringing everybody back," Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan said. "But we have to focus on the 11 guys that we are going to try to defend. Our focus is we have to win this game to go to the playoffs. It doesn't matter if [former defensive end Ed] 'Too Tall' Jones is out there." This isn't the first time that the NFL has put the Ravens in a difficult situation through scheduling. When Hurricane Ike hit Houston, the league postponed the game, forcing the Ravens to play the final 15 weeks without a bye -- including a stretch of three road games in a row. But the Ravens overcame that challenge and plan to do the same tomorrow night. "We definitely could have made a bunch of excuses and had a bad year," outside linebacker Jarret Johnson said. "But we haven't done that. It kind of speaks to the resiliency of the players and the coaches." Meanwhile in the NBA The Boston Celtics passed a major test on the road in their last game, preserving the longest winning streak in the NBA this season. Now, three seemingly easier home games are all that stand between them and the longest run of victories in franchise history. The Celtics go for their 17th straight win Friday against the Chicago Bulls , who've been blown out in their last three visits to TD Banknorth Garden. A trip to Atlanta may have been Boston's biggest challenge in its last 16 games, and the Celtics struggled offensively through three quarters in a building in which they lost three playoff games last season. Kevin Garnett responded for the Celtics, going 5-of-5 from the floor and scoring 10 of his 18 points in the final 12 minutes as Boston (24-2) pulled out an 88-85 win. That kept alive the Celtics' chances of breaking the club record of 18 victories in a row, set during the 1981-82 season. "Sometimes it seems as though it's a burden. That monkey grows. It's a good monkey though," Boston guard Ray Allen said. "I've never been on a streak like this. It's great to be a part of our winning here. I think our winning is based on our preparation." Boston will now be preparing for three straight home games against teams with losing records. After the Bulls visit Friday, New York and Philadelphia each make their second trip of the season to TD Banknorth Garden. Wins in all of those games would make the Celtics the first team in NBA history to start 27-2. Thanks for listening Cedric Bailey and The Sports Diva

Bishop T D Jakes is one the most gifted men in the world. He is back again with another Movie. Not Easily Broken Starring Morris Chestnut that will opening on Friday, January 9th
Chronicling the story of one couple’s love, loss and ultimate faith in one another, Not Easily Broken follows the lives of Dave (MORRIS CHESTNUT) and Clarice (TARAJI P. HENSON) Johnson in their second decade of marriage. Dave’s dreams of major league baseball success were dashed by an injury in college, leading him to a steady but unfulfilling career as the head of a small construction firm. Clarice is basking in the glow of real estate stardom, creating a life that revolves around her rise to the top. She has become blind to Dave’s needs, the most important being his desire to become a father and start a family with her. They face a total disruption in their lives when a car crash seriously injures Clarice, whose meddling mother, Mary (JENIFER LEWIS), blames Dave for her daughter’s leg injuries and derailed career. Help comes in the form of kind-hearted physical therapist and single mom Julie Sawyer (MAEVE QUINLAN), whose son Bryson (CANNON JAY) is coached by Dave and his pals Brock (EDDIE CIBRIAN) and Tree (KEVIN HART) in Little League baseball. Though Clarice is helped by Julie’s care, she becomes concerned that her constant criticism of Dave has pushed her husband away – possibly into the arms of the empathetic Julie. Soon Dave and Clarice must face a married couple’s most serious questions: are we really meant to be together, and if we are, how do we fight to keep what we have built as man and wife. Hello friends, As you know the economy is at the top of the news almost every day. And it's usually not good news: especially for America's working poor. They are in more dire straits than ever -- and many are losing their jobs every day. This Christmas, more Americans than ever won't be able to celebrate. Families are relying on gifts from friends like you to help feed their children. Even working parents who don't live below the "official" poverty line can't afford their basic needs — food, shelter and utilities. Way before Wall Street made headlines this fall, poverty was seeping into homes all across this country. A new study shows that by 2006, the number of low income working families had increased by 350,000 and nearly 1 in 4 new jobs paid poverty-level wages. Please give from the heart this holiday season so we can provide food to feed hurting children and overwhelmed families. Today moms and dads are wondering how they will feed their children. When you send the equivalent cost of one-time Christmas dinner, your gift this Christmas will ease hunger pains for a family for weeks or months at a time. Please visit our website and take a few minutes to help us reach our goal of 1000 families. Please take a moment to listen to the podcast and listen to those that have supported thus far.Visit www.musicalsoulfood.com or call 1(800)627-4556. Sunday December 14th will be our last day. Thank you for taking the time read and listen. Merry Christmas Cedric Bailey

The Scripture is from Zephaniah 1 1 The Lord gave this message to Zephaniah when Josiah son of Amon was king of Judah. Zephaniah was the son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezekiah. Now verse 12 “I will search with lanterns in Jerusalem’s darkest corners

Brett Favre and the New York Jets stand alone atop the tight AFC East standings - barely. Jay Feely kicked a 34-yard field goal on the only series of overtime after New England tied the game on Matt Cassel 's pass to Randy Moss with one second left in regulation and the Jets survived a Tom Brady -like comeback with a 34-31 victory Thursday night. The win broke a tie for the division lead between the teams and gave the Jets (7-3) sole possession of first place for the first time since Nov. 19, 2001, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Patriots (6-4) have won the AFC East the last five seasons and six of the last seven. New England ''had all the momentum,'' said Favre, who threw two touchdown passes and directed the winning drive. ''Based on history, you would have bet against us. This says a lot about our team.'' The Jets, who led 24-6 in the first half, extended their winning streak to four with their sixth victory in seven games and are 1 1/2 games ahead of Buffalo and Miami in the division. They beat the Patriots for only the second time in 13 games. ''It's a great, great feeling for us,'' Jets coach Eric Mangini said. ''Everybody understands that this game was extremely important, and it's important because it allows us to make the next game (against Tennessee) extremely important. It's a really positive step for our team.'' The loss wasted a brilliant performance by Cassel, whose first pro start after Brady's season-ending knee injury in the opener came in a 19-10 win over the Jets. Cassel completed 30 of 51 passes for 400 yards, all career highs, and three touchdowns. He ran eight times for 62 yards, sixth-most in team history for a quarterback and the most since Steve Grogan ran for 65 in consecutive games in 1978. ''It's not enough,'' Cassel said. The Patriots got the tying touchdown on Cassel's 16-yard pass on fourth down. Moss' diving sideline catch was reviewed when he was pushed out of bounds by cornerback Ty Law , but the touchdown stood. New England had marched to Moss' touchdown from its 38-yard line with no timeouts and 1:04 left Stephen Gostkowski 's extra point tied it and erased a 31-24 lead the Jets had taken on Thomas Jones ' 1-yard touchdown run with 3:10 left. ''I don't know what their record was in overtime,'' Mangini said, ''but I'm sure they've been pretty successful.'' Favre made his 263rd consecutive regular-season start, an NFL record, and went 26-of-33 for 258 yards and, on the only drive of overtime, marched the Jets 64 yards on 14 plays in 7:50. His 16-yard pass to Laveranues Coles brought the ball to the Patriots' 24-yard line, three running plays moved it to the 16 and Feely connected for his second field goal of the game - giving Favre his 42nd win in games his team trailed or were tied in the fourth quarter. ''I was nervous as heck'' heading into overtime, he said. ''I said, 'Why can't we make this easy?' But it's what I'm capable of doing. ''This one ranks right up there near the top'' of all his wins. Now let's take a look at this weeks upcoming games. Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis did not practice again Friday and will be used only "in a limited fashion" if he is able to play Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys. The NFL's second-leading rusher was able to watch practice -- unlike Wednesday and Thursday, when his sprained left knee kept him away from the field -- and was "getting some mental reps in case he has a chance to go," according to coach Jim Zorn. Portis sprained the knee in the 23-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers before last week's bye. He is questionable on the injury report. "I would use him, if he could go, in a limited fashion," Zorn said. Portis' backup, Ladell Betts, is probable after missing three games with a sprained knee. Betts was limited in practice Friday. Nowlet's see what owner Jerry is talking about in Dallas, Texas. Jerry Jones "absolutely" believes the Dallas Cowboys will make the playoffs, isn't considering a coaching change and would welcome Adam "Pacman" Jones back to the team if he's reinstated. The Cowboys owner, in an impromptu gathering with reporters during practice Thursday, said he expects his struggling Cowboys to recover. They have gone from Super Bowl favorites to a 5-4 team tied for third place in the NFC East after losing four of its past six games. "That's not optimism," Jones said. "I certainly do feel we're going to be a team that plays well enough to be thinking about the playoffs." Coming off its open date, Dallas gets injured quarterback Tony Romo back Sunday night at Washington after he missed three games with a broken pinkie on his throwing hand. "I would say Romo gives you a legitimate reason to not have been your best or been what you might have expected over the last three games," Jones said. The Cowboys lost two of three without Romo, and the only win was notable for being the worst offensive performance in a victory in franchise history. But they were already struggling when he broke his finger on the opening play of overtime in a loss at Arizona on Oct. 12. After the Cowboys lost at St. Louis a week later, Jones emphatically said that coach Wade Phillips' job wasn't in danger during this season. The owner was even more committed to the coach on Thursday. Gordon Jackson interview with Cedric Bailey on the Democratic Convention 2008 in Denver
August 28, 2008 04:31 AM PDT
This Thursday evening the world will be watch as Senator Barack Obama will make his acceptance speech in Denver CO. Meanwhile on Wednesday night I had to chance to talk with Gordon Jackson of the Dallas Examiner. Be sure to listen to this podcast for the last night's DNC report on Senator Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile here's an update on the latest news from Denver. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois was poised to become the first African-American ever nominated for president by a major political party Wednesday after delegates to the Democratic National Convention heard nominating speeches that were expected to conclude with his chief rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, asking her supporters to join in accepting Obama by acclamation. Clinton was in the New York delegation as the traditional roll call of the states got under way. NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell reported that Clinton would join State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in casting the state’s votes. Clinton, who made a ringing, unqualified endorsement of her former rival in a prime-time speech Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention, met with her delegates in the afternoon and said she had signed her ballot for Obama, drawing some cheers and some moans of dismay. The groans then turned into cheers when she acknowledged that “many other people who sign their ballots will make a different choice.” “We got here by different paths,” Clinton said. “And you are to be given the respect and recognition you have earned as delegates for the Democratic Party.” After convention, off to the battleground Obama landed in Denver just as Day 3 of the convention opened at 5 p.m. ET. He will give his acceptance speech Thursday night to as many as 75,000 people at nearby Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, said Obama was still refining his speech, which he was writing himself. The speech will make a “clear and direct” case about the risks of choosing the presumed Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, whom Obama will “not shy away from attacking,” Axelrod said. Then, on Friday, Obama, his wife, Michelle, will be joined by the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, and his wife, Jill, on a bus tour of the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan. Biden was to address the convention Wednesday night, as was former President Bill Clinton, whose support for Obama has seemed tepid at best. Earlier this month, the former president sidestepped a question on whether Obama was prepared for the White House. “You could argue that no one’s ever ready to be president,” Barber Shop Sports Talk with the Sport Agent Bobby Agent

Well if you haven't heard Brent Favre is on his way back to Green Bay for the Packers training camp. However we just learned that he is going to need a letter from the Commisioner Rodger Goodell. Meanwhile Breon Dennis share his thoughts on this topic at the Barber Shop with Cedric Bailey. Here's the latest report. If Brett Favre plans to show for the Green Bay Packers' training camp, he'll need permission from the NFL. And as of Friday afternoon there was no sign he had petitioned the league for reinstatement. A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that the letter, which must be filed with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, had not been received as of late Friday afternoon. The person requested anonymity because league and team officials were withholding comment until Favre actually filed his letter. The step is considered a formality, but an important one: Favre can't return until Goodell receives and approves the request. The NFL Network reported Friday morning that Favre told Packers general manager Ted Thompson he plans to report to training camp and could file his reinstatement letter as early as Friday, a move perhaps designed to force the team to quickly trade the three-time MVP. Speculation on a potential new home for Favre has centered on Tampa Bay, but the New York Jets also are emerging as a potential trade partner for the Packers. Jets quarterback Chad Pennington said Friday that general manager Mike Tannenbaum told him the team has talked to the Packers about Favre. It didn't sound like Tannenbaum assured Pennington that the Jets aren't interested. "Bottom line, an organization has to take a look at every player available in this league. Period," Pennington said. "A general manager and a head coach is going to do everything they can do to make their team as good as they can make it. That's their job." Tannenbaum would not confirm conversations with the Packers Barber Shop Sports Talk with Bobby O on the 2008 Training Camp and Brent Favre return to the Packers

It's over The Boston Celtics are this year NBA Champions. We have given Mr. Laker Breon Dennis a couple of days to get his closing remarks together. Dennis will join us on friday show to give his closing comments. Meanwhile Coach Al Johnson gives the complete breakdown on what happened. The Celtics parade will be on this Thursday. Meanwhile here is the report from the Boston Globe. www.boston.com Thanks for listening. After the Boston Celtics' 131-92 public evisceration of the soft and soulless Los Angeles Lakers tonight to clinch their 17th world championship, let the record show that Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett no longer stand in anyone's shadow. They are NBA champions in their own right, and they did it in a manner that would impress even Larry, Kevin, and the Chief. Your kids will remember this the way we remember 1986, and that's exactly how it should be. The Big Three sequel was 22 years in the making, but man, what a movie it turned out to be.
Allen took longer to win us over, but when he did it, he sure did it with flair. Tonight he hit seven of nine 3-point attempts en route to 26 points, brilliantly concluding series in which he reminded us why he is one of the most effective, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing shooters in the history of the league. Postseason success did not come easy for Allen - he agonized through a 9-for-51 slump in the early rounds that left some wondering if the 32-year-old's gas tank was on empty. To his credit, he stuck to his legendary pregame routine, literally shot his way out of the slump, and was so consistently excellent against the Lakers (a Finals-record 21 3-pointers) that he would have been a worthy MVP had the honor not gone to Pierce. Allen proved himself to be the epitome of a professional, and it has been a privilege to watch him these past two weeks. As for Mr. Garnett, the word we used earlier today keeps returning to mind: Redemption. Never again should his fortitude in the big moments be questioned, never again should those who criticized his game be heard. It turns out Bill Russell doesn't have to give him a ring after all. Tonight, he went out and claimed his own, scoring 26 points, collecting 14 rebounds, and earning his place on the pedestal alongside the great Celtic big men of other eras. Watching him embrace Russell in the aftermath . . . well, if that doesn't make a Boston sports fan a little verklempt, then your cynical soul is beyond hopeless, my friend. If there was any doubt about this trio's Hall of Fame credentials - and really, there shouldn't have been - it was permanently erased last night, when they combined for 69 points, 21 rebounds, and 16 assists. Appropriately, Pierce, Allen, and Garnett exited together with 4:01 left to play, spending the final moments of the season beaming through a continuous photo op and rejoicing in the ultimate team feat, something none of them could accomplish solo in their decorated careers. And make no mistake - despite those sensational contributions of the, yes, Big Three, this was a complete team effort. So many members of the unsung supporting cast - think anyone still believes the Lakers have a superior bench? - deserve a standing ovation today. We must start with James Posey, for he is to these Celtics what Troy Brown was to the '01 Patriots. When something absolutely, positively needed to be done during this postseason - say, drilling a 3-pointer from the corner, taking a charge on Kobe, poking away a steal in the back court, anything - he inevitably did it. He is the ultimate role player, just what every championship team needs, and there are few recent Boston athletes I've admired more. So many others deserve a salute: Eddie House, who kept his shooting hand locked and loaded even when minutes were scarce . . . Kendrick Perkins, whose toughness and brute-force defense gave the old timers some welcome Paul Silas flashbacks . . . Rajon Rondo, the maddening but bright and gifted kid point guard who saved his best for last (21 points, 8 assists, 6 steals, 1 turnover) . . . Leon Powe, who made sure Phil Jackson learned his name . . . youthful and exuberant Big Baby Davis . . . ancient and wise P.J. Brown . . . and hell, yes, even Cassell. Let's not overlook the two men most responsible for bringing this wonderful team together. There's Doc Rivers, the maligned coach, who demonstrated such an uncommon (and unexpected) knack for making the right choices as the stakes grew larger that one almost had to wonder if someone was whispering in his ear. Rivers, relentlessly positive and unifying, always had his players' respect, even when the seas were roughest, which tells you all you need to know about his competence. Finally, there's Danny Ainge, the direct link from that beloved champion 22 years ago to this one, the tireless-shooting-guard-turned-tireless-GM whose savvy trades and free agent signings sparked the greatest one-season turnaround in league history. I still don't know whether the sequence of events that led to the Garnett deal was more by luck or design, but at this moment, it matters not one bit. He revived the franchise, and he cannot receive enough credit for that. To think about where the the Celtics were 12 months ago - reeling after yet another lottery letdown, leaving its downtrodden fans muttering and desperately trying to talk themselves into believing in a pipe dream such as the raw promise of Gerald Green - well, it might just be the most improbable story of all in this remarkable (six champions!) decade of Boston sports success. On today show Toderick and I talked about our roles as a father. We also talked about his magazine. www.epitomemagazine.org Meanwhile I included a statement from Ms Monica Johnson, VP of Operations for the Magazine. WORDS of Wisdom REPOSITIONING THE HEART “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). Jesus reminds us that our speech and actions reveal our true intentions and motives for our life. I believe children must know the heart of their father, and the father must know the condition of his children's hearts. Perhaps the most important characteristic of a loving father is that he makes a point of understanding what God is doing in the life of each of his children. Proverbs 20:5 states, “Guidance in the heart of a man is like deep water, but a man of understanding draws it out.” The saved, loving father is attentive to his children, to the state of their heart, their disposition, and their walk with God. It takes a lot of understanding to discover what is in the heart of a child. Fathers must make a point of becoming familiar
We tend to think that children need their fathers only in the earlier stages of their lives. They actually need their fathers more when they get older. They need their fathers to help reposition their lives into adulthood. Many men are trying to raise honest, loyal and obedient children to become what God has created them to be despite the fact that most of these men were not reared in this same

As a visionary I have always had a sight for leading people in the right directions. It hurts me to my heart to see the direction that we are going as a whole. Somehow we have let the so called Government and Lawmakers take control of our lives. As a Christian, I’m here to inform you that the only system we should believe in is THE POWER OF GOD. Growing up in a Christian based family, I had two grandmothers that not only kept me in church on Sundays, but also insisted that I attend Sunday school, bible study, sing in the youth choir and participate in the youth ministries. Shortly after I lost both of my grandmothers a lot changed in my life. I wasn’t active in church as I had been when they were here to guide me in the right direction. I was fortunate enough to have good parents who helped me stay out of trouble and have a stable childhood.
Given this opportunity by God to share with millions of people a magazine about the positive way of life is truly a Blessing. You will find that by taking time out of your busy schedule to read Epitome Magazine, you will gain faith and a sense of direction toward life. Be Blessed. Todrick Johnson

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, a decade removed from his third consecutive — and last — trip to the NFC championship game, speaking to a robust media throng in a club-level hall at Lambeau Field. It was a scene Favre couldn't be certain he'd see again two years ago, when he was contemplating retirement after a 4-12 season, or even five months ago, before this magical season had begun in earnest. Friday afternoon, though, in the traditional pre-title game media conference, Favre wasn't shy about saying he wants more. "I'm sure most people didn't think it could be done while I was playing again," Favre said of returning to the title game. "Maybe at times I doubted that myself, felt like I could play at a high level, felt like this team had potential. But 13-3 and back in a championship game, this is very rewarding, but I didn't feel any added pressure. I'm very pleased with where we are, but I'm not content with the fact that we're here, and OK, we're just happy to be here and anything that happens after this is great. I mean, it will be a great year regardless, one that we will remember for a long time. But I want to take this thing further. "You know, I'm not going home doing cartwheels or anything like that thinking, 'My God, can you believe this?' It's been great, it's been a fun ride, but we just don't want to be the feel-good story from this year." That story has come to this — favored by 7½ points in a classic cold-weather championship game at Lambeau Field, perhaps frigid enough to be dubbed "Ice Bowl II," with the man who has led the Packers to two Super Bowls trying to chisel the path to a third through the upstart New York Giants. Barber Shop Sports Talk Cedric Bailey Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Nears Sellout
Fort Worth, Texas, December 21, 2007 - With the title partner renewing its agreement for another two years and the Pac-10 Conference providing a school for the first-time, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl is nearing a sellout for the fifth annual game at the 44,008-seat Amon G. Carter Stadium.
“I think Bell Helicopter’s renewal along with a school from the Pac-10 challenging one of the nation’s most improved teams this season has sparked the interest for college football fans in this area and throughout the nation,” said Tom Starr, Executive Director of Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. “We have sold over 42,000 tickets for the game and hope to announce a sell out before the game.”
With a new date after playing the past four year on December 23, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl game features the U. S. Air Force Academy and the University of California, Berkeley. The intercollegiate post-season football game will be played here December 31 at Amon G. Carter Stadium with ESPN and ESPN Radio airing the contest “live” starting at 11:30 a.m. (CST).
Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. Company, renewed its option to be the title partner of the Armed Forces Bowl for two more years as the announcement was made by Richard Millman, the company’s president and chief executive office, during the 2007 Team Announcement Party December 6 at the Bell Helicopter Customer Center at Alliance Airport North.
Formerly known as the Fort Worth Bowl during its first three years, the ESPN-owned and operated Armed Forces Bowl initially signed Bell Helicopter as the game's title partner in August 2006. The initial agreement was for two years with Bell Helicopter now picking up the two-year option to title partner the game through the 2009 post-season.
With Patriotic overtones featuring the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy, the 2007 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will include an Armed Forces Adventure area showcasing military hardware; flyovers; a demonstration by one of the top military skydiving teams; induction ceremonies on the field; a military band and honor guard; and the presentation of a “Great American Patriot Award” to Pete Geren, the Secretary of the Army.
With the setup for the Armed Forces Adventure being December 29 in a parking lot just north of Amon G. Carter Stadium, the area will be open to the public from 1-6 p.m., December 30 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on December 31. A pep rally for Air Force and Cal will be held from 4-6 p.m. December 30 at the stadium followed by the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl fireworks show.
“The Armed Forces Adventure will be remarkable and will be enhanced this year by the pep rally and fireworks show,” said Starr. “We are thrilled with our match up this year featuring Air Force’s first bowl appearance in five years with new coach Troy Calhoun. Also, Jeff Tedford has now led Cal to five-straight bowl games and the Bears were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country this year.”
Ticket prices for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl are $40 for sideline seats and $15 for endzone tickets. Military veterans receive half off any $40 seat and active duty personnel get in free via the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl corporate military ticket underwriting program. A portion of local ticket sales will go to designated military charities. Tickets for this year’s game can be obtained by calling the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl office at 817/810-0012 or by going online to www.ArmedForcesBowl.com. Pat Summerall talks about Tony Romo, Terrell Owens & Sean Taylor on Rejoice Musical Soul Food with Cedric Bailey
December 04, 2007 02:12 PM PST
On Tuesday show, I had the opportunity to talk with an NFL Legend Pat Summerall. We talked about Terrell Owens, Tony Romo and the Late Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins. Be sure to listen to the podcast and share it with a friend. Meanwhile I have attached the bio of Pat Summerall Pat Summerall spent more than half a century working in NFL stadiums. For millions of fans, Summerall was the signature voice of football. For 40 years, he was the sport’s pre-eminent broadcaster, first on CBS and then on the FOX Network. Summerall called a record 16 Super Bowls (five as an analyst and 11 as a play-by-play man) and his 21-year partnership with analyst John Madden created what many critics and viewers consider the greatest announcing tandem in sports broadcasting history. In addition to football, Summerall was the chief broadcaster for the Master’s, the U.S. Open Tennis Championship and the NBA. Last year, when ESPN announcer Mike Patrick was forced to miss several games because of multiple bypass heart surgery, the network called on Summerall, who capably filled in just months after undergoing a liver transplant. Summerall is a member of the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame, and he has received numerous citations, including a Lifetime Achievement Award for Sports by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His illustrious broadcasting career has eclipsed the fact that Summerall was also quite a good player. Summerall was both an offensive and defensive end, though his most valuable skill was placekicking. In 10 NFL seasons he scored 563 points. After playing collegiate football at Arkansas, Summerall joined the NFL as a fourth-round draft choice of the Detroit Lions in 1952. A year later he joined the Chicago Cardinals, with whom he spent five mostly forgettable seasons. The Cards were a combined 17-41-2 in those years. Prior to the 1958 season, Summerall and cornerback Linden Crow were traded to the Giants for Dick Nolan (the father of former Giants assistant and current San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan) and Bobby Joe Conrad. “I think I was going to quit if I had stayed at Chicago,” Summerall, 75, recently said from his home in Southlake, Texas, outside of Dallas. “I was going to retire. It was like the minor leagues. It was a depressing situation. One year we were 7-5. The other years we had dreadful, dreadful seasons. It was just a depressing atmosphere. I knew (Giants coach) Jim Lee Howell from my days at Arkansas. So when I was traded to the Giants I thought, ‘Hey, let’s go see if we want to continue?’ “I realized when I got to the Giants that we had just as good athletes in Chicago as they had in New York. But the guys in New York were happy and very, very intelligent. That was the thing that really, really struck me. We had a lot of smart players, really bright guys.” Summerall played in 48 games in four seasons for the Giants. He scored 313 points, including a career-high 90 in 1960 – oddly, the only season of the four in which the Giants did not play in the NFL Championship Game. But Summerall is best remembered for being the key figure on one of the most memorable plays in Giants history. The date was Dec. 14, 1958. The Giants hosted the Cleveland Browns in Yankee Stadium, needing a victory to force a tie atop the Eastern Conference and a playoff game the following week against the same opponent. A tie would have given Cleveland the title. Late in the game, with snow swirling, Summerall kicked a field goal that may or may not have been from 49 yards away to give the Giants a 13-10 victory. Propelled by Summerall’s heroics, the Giants defeated the Browns in the playoff game, then advanced to the NFL Championship Game against the Baltimore Colts. They lost in overtime, 23-17 in what has since been called The Greatest Game Ever Played. Wellington Mara, who has been with the Giants since their inception in 1925, considers Summerall’s kick the most significant play in franchise history. “(It is the biggest) because of the circumstances of the play and because the result of it put us in the (conference) championship,” said Mara, who has two photos hanging in his office of the dramatic field goal sailing through the goal posts. “We never did find out how far it was. I always thought it was further than 49. I remember very well I was up in the box with (assistant coach Ken) Kavanaugh and I forget who else. When Summerall was sent on the field we all second-guessed the decision. We thought he couldn’t kick it that far.” They weren’t alone. Just a few minutes earlier, Summerall had missed a 31-yard attempt that would have given the Giants the lead. In the 1950s, the NFL’s fiercest rivalry was the Giants vs. Cleveland. When Summerall missed, it appeared the despised Browns would be playing Baltimore for the title. But when the Giants faced a fourth down at the Cleveland 42 late in the game, Howell made the shocking decision to send Summerall on the field for another field goal try. “When Jim Lee called for the field goal that we ultimately made, not too many people were in favor of that,” Summerall said. “When I got to the huddle, Charlie Conerly, who was the quarterback and the holder, said, ‘What the hell are you doing in here?’ I couldn’t believe he asked me to do that. The field was in horrible shape, and I had never made a kick that long.” A heavy snow was falling and the yard markers had long since disappeared, so Summerall wasn’t certain how far he was from the goal posts. He figured he’d kick the ball as hard as he could and hope for the best. “Kyle Rote said that it was back at the 50,” Summerall said. “There was no way to tell, because all of the lines were obliterated by the snow. And it was in mud and dirt, anyway. I remember I knew I had hit it solidly. I remember watching as it got closer to the goal post; it was breaking back and forth like a knuckler. And I wasn’t sure it was going to go in; I knew it was far enough, but I wasn’t sure it was going to go in.” When it did, with a little more than two minutes remaining, Summerall returned to the sidelines as a conquering hero. One of the first men to greet him was Vince Lombardi, then the offensive coach, who had tried to convince Howell to go for a first down. “He grabbed me and I thought he was going to say, ‘Great kick’ or something of a congratulatory nature,” Summerall said. “But he said, ‘You know, you can’t kick it that far.’” Two weeks later, the Giants played the Colts for the championship in one of the most famous games in NFL history. Summerall was one of many Giants confused by the events at the end of the fourth quarter. “When (Steve) Myhra tried the field goal to tie the score at the end of regulation, I thought for sure he had missed it,” Summerall said. “It went over the top of the upright and it looked to me as if it was no good. So for a moment I thought we had won the game, 17-14. Then when the official’s hands went up…nobody knew what we were supposed to do. Nobody had ever played an overtime period before. Don Heinrich was the backup quarterback. I said to him, ‘What happens now?’ He said, ‘I don’t have any idea.’ It was just confusion on the bench – nobody knew what was going on. It seemed like an eternity before we started playing again.” The Giants received the kickoff, but had to punt when the officials ruled Frank Gifford was stopped short of a first down – a decision Gifford and his teammates still insist was wrong. The Giants punted and Johnny Unitas led the Colts down the field to the winning touchdown, which was scored by Alan Ameche on a one-yard run. The game is widely credited for making pro football the nation’s most popular sport. “I don’t think any of us felt that it was the greatest game ever played,” Summerall said. “We had had to play that extra playoff game with Cleveland. I think we were out of gas. The Colts were clearly a better team. We were lucky to be that close to them, I think. And I think all of us had the idea that this was not the greatest game we ever played. Certainly we didn’t play our best. And we didn’t realize the magnitude of what it was – the overtime and the whole situation, until people started to write about it the next week.” Summerall played for three more seasons before retiring. He had done a show for CBS radio in 1960 and ‘61, and when he heard about an opening on the Giants’ CBS telecasts he applied and got the job. The pay was $325 a game. Summerall figured he had a future in broadcasting, so he called Mara and told him of his intention to retire. In those days, CBS had announcing tandems stay with specific teams. Summerall did the Giants’ games with Chris Schenkel in 1962 and ‘63, then moved to Washington to broadcast Redskins games in `64. “I didn’t know how good I was, but I enjoyed it right away,” Summerall said. “I really thought this was what I wanted to pursue. I didn’t have any background; I didn’t have any experience or anything like that. I had figured that I was going to coach and teach school and maybe do other ventures. I had been in some farming ventures in Florida. Then I got offered the job in 1964 to work full time with CBS. I remember I was making – with everything I was doing – making about $15,000 a year. Chris said to me, ‘There is a job open in New York. I don’t have time to do it. They have offered it to me but I think if you contact so and so maybe they will hire you.’ So I did. I said, ‘What is the starting pay?’ They said, ‘It starts, I think, at $75,000.’ I said, ‘Sign me up.’ We moved to New York from Florida.” Thus began one of the great careers in broadcasting. For millions of fans, Summerall was the voice of NFL football. He was soon in living rooms across the country every autumn weekend. In the 1970s, when the Dallas Cowboys were known as “America’s Team,” Summerall was their unofficial announcer. It seemed that each week, he would remind viewers that “Tom Landry is the only coach the Dallas Cowboys have ever had.” Summeral’s broadcast partner then was former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Tom Brookshier. “I became, I guess, the lead horse for CBS by 1970,” Summerall said. “Brookshier and I were together for years. He is the closest thing I ever had to a brother. He was the best man at my wedding; we still talk a couple of times a week. We are very close.” In 1981, CBS paired Summerall with Madden, then the industry’s hot new analyst. They clicked instantly, and for more than two decades they were renowned as the best and most popular announcing team, not just in football but in any sport. In 1994, FOX wrested the NFC contract from CBS. Summerall and Madden switched networks, but they remained the signature NFL tandem through 2001. Summerall retired from full-time work following the 2002 season. “We have a great, great friendship,” Summerall said of his partnership with Madden. “He is not the outgoing guy that he appears to be. He is very shy, very much an introvert. He has those claustrophobic hang-ups. He doesn’t have a lot of close friends; he doesn’t have a lot of hobbies. In fact, he doesn’t do anything but watch football film. So we didn’t socialize a lot together. We had a good time together because, as he has often said, ‘He was a football guy and I was a football guy.’ And we knew the days of the old decrepit fields and we sort of grew up in the game together. So we had a lot in common. And we shared the same love of the game.” Summerall is a recovering alcoholic who stopped drinking during a 33-day stay at the Betty Ford Clinic. He said he has been sober for 13 years. But the alcohol took its toll, and Summerall had to undergo a liver transplant in April 2004. When Summerall left the hospital, he and Madden reunited, though this time it was not to broadcast a game. “When I had the liver transplant, I can’t tell you how good John was and how loyal he was and how much involved he was,” Summerall said. “We are very, very close friends.” Summerall, who is a Born Again Christian, now says, “I feel better than I have felt in the last 15 years.” Summerall lives in Southlake with Cheri, his wife for almost 10 years. He has three adult children from a previous marriage. His daughter, Susan Wiles, works in the mayor’s office in Jacksonville, Fla. as the Chief of Communications & Special Initiatives. His oldest son, Jay, is in the credit card business in Philadelphia. Another son, Kyle – named after former teammate Kyle Rote – has a production company in Jacksonville. Although he is at an age where he can put his feet up, watch a football game and rest on his laurels, Summerall is always on the lookout for more work. He does commercials and voice-over work. He leaped at the chance to join ESPN, where he did four preseason games and six regular season games while Patrick recovered from surgery. “I don’t have a weekly schedule where I am covering games, although the time I filled in with ESPN made me miss it a lot,” Summerall said. “I wish I was back doing it. But I went five years without a weekend off, doing golf and tennis and whatever else and football. I don’t think I want to do that again, but I would like to get back involved again, I really would. Because those weeks that I did for ESPN, I realized how much I missed the association with the game and the players and the coaches and talking with them and finding out why they are doing what they are doing. If you do it as long as I did – it is like Wellington Mara - it has been my life.” For so long, Pat Summerall was part of every football fan’s life. To millions, he will always be the voice of Sunday afternoons. Barber Shop Sports Talk with the

If you missed Thursday game between the Cowboys and Packers, then you missed a great NFC Showdown. Here is some comments from the Dallas Cowboys website. Brett Favre proved for 11 games that Canton-bound quarterbacks, even at 38 years old, can pick apart defenses if provided enough pocket time. The Cowboys' defense never gave him that chance Thursday night, from his opening snap to cornerback Nate Jones' vicious second-quarter sack that knocked him out of the game with an elbow and shoulder injury. Favre's shortened stat line in Green Bay's 37-27 loss here at Texas Stadium bore no resemblance to the season-long production (101.5 passer rating) bettered only by Tony Romo in the NFC. He completed 5 of 14 passes for 56 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions that resulted in 14 consecutive Cowboys points. "You've got to make him throw the ball quick or he's going to throw the ball downfield," Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart said. "You've got to pick your poison. What we wanted to do was make him throw quick and try to tackle the throw, and that's what we did." Favre is now 0-9 all-time at Texas Stadium, and his latest struggles stemmed from a relentless pass rush. Today during the "Precious Times Report Publisher "Marilyn White and I talked about this topic. We are asking the Rejoice Family to share their concerns about topic. Be sure to visit Precious TImes Magazine online at www.precioustimesmag.com New York, NY-- CBS News has learned Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct.
Letters were sent Monday to the ministries demanding that financial statements and records be turned over to the committee by Dec. 6. According to Grassley's office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles. The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six - Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar - also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University. A spokesperson for Joyce Meyer Ministries provided CBS News with an IRS letter to the ministry dated October 10, 2007, that stated: "We determined that you continue to qualify as an organization exempt from Federal income tax." The letter could not be independently verified in time for this story. The ministry also pointed to audited financial statements for the last three years that are posted on the organization's website. In a statement, Benny Hinn's spokesperson, Ronn Torossian, said the ministry was in the process of determining the best course of action in response to the Senate investigation. "World Healing Center Church complies with the laws that govern church and non-profit organizations and will continue to do so," Torossian wrote.
In a statement to CBS News, Creflo Dollar called his ministry an "open book" and said he would comply with any "valid request" from Grassley. But he noted that the inquiry raised questions that could "affect the privacy of every community church in America." The other three ministries did not respond to requests for comment from CBS News on Monday. Because they have tax status as churches, the ministries do not have to file IRS 990 forms like other non-profit organizations - leaving much financial information largely behind closed doors. The letters sent Monday were the culmination of a long investigation fueled in part by complaints from Ole Anthony, a crusader against religious fraud who operates the Dallas-based Trinity Foundation, which describes itself as a watchdog monitoring religious media, fraud and abuse. "We've been working with them for two years," Anthony told CBS News. "We have furnished them with enough information to fill a small Volkswagen." Anthony said after twenty years of working with media organizations to expose televangelists, he saw little reform. He says that's why he turned to another tactic, going straight to Grassley. He is confident that Grassley's inquiry will be different, "What we hope is that this will lead to reform in religious nonprofits." The structure of many televangelist organizations - in which the leadership is often concentrated in one person or one family - has itself been the target of criticism. "Churches like these are ruled as a dictatorship," says Rod Pitzer, who directs research at Ministry Watch in North Carolina, which provides advice for donors to Christian organizations. Pitzer welcomes the Senate committee investigation. Ministries lacking accountability, he says, "give a black eye to churches and Christians who are trying to do things in the right manner." The topic of obesity, in both kids and adults, is often in the news, but it shouldn't be news to anyone that more people than ever are overweight.
A little more surprising is that, although being overweight has been increasing in kids too, only 15.3 percent of 6- 11-year-old children and 15.5 percent of 12- 19-year-old adolescents were overweight in 2000. Although 15 percent is a lot, at least it isn't as high as the two-thirds of adults who are overweight. During today segement Andrea George talks to the Rejoice Family about obesity with our children. Remember Fitsational is every monday with Cedric Bailey on Rejoice Musical Soul Food at 3pm Cst. If you last weeks upsets in Southern California, then we have the information that you need. What about the big game in Baton Rouge LA. with Florida and LSU. The Sports Diva has the 411 on this weeks big games in College Football. Auburn will travel to Arkansas to play the Hogs in their backyard. LSU will travel to Kentucky to play the Wildcats. Meanwhile here is a report from Lexington KY about the big game. By the way THANK YOU to the Lexington Newpaper for the photos and story about the game.
The Tigers' offense isn't just out there killing time until the defense can get back on the field, either. It's not often that you lose a quarterback who goes No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft and get better, but Coach Rich Brooks, whose Cats play the Tigers Saturday, said they are more dangerous this year with Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux under center than they were with JaMarcus Russell in 2006. Louisiana State is fourth in the Southeastern Conference in scoring offense (37.8) and fourth in total offense (432.4), which has provided more than enough support for its vaunted defense. "(Flynn and Perrilloux) are not as good overall as the No. 1 guy in the draft, but I believe their offense is more productive this year," Brooks said. "They just have a lot of weapons and rotate a lot of people in there." Senior running back Jacob Hester has replaced Russell as the high-profile member of the attack. While LSU will use as many as five backs, the 6-foot, 228-pound Hester has emerged as the go-to guy with a team-leading 433 yards and five touchdowns. He was the workhorse down the stretch in LSU's 28-24 win over Florida last week and scored the game-winning touchdown. "He's a stud," said UK defensive coordinator Steve Brown. "He runs, he catches the ball, he pass-protects. He does a lot of good things." While Hester has just started to blow up on the national scene (he's on this week's cover of Sports Illustrated), he's no stranger to the Kentucky defense as he scored two touchdowns in LSU's 49-0 win over the Cats last season. Hester rarely goes down on first contact, and he has carried 212 consecutive times without a fumble. Brown said his unit will have to be solid tacklers against Hester or it could be a long afternoon. "We've just got to try and knock his block off," Brown said. "He's a guy you've got to wrap up. He runs a 4.5 and benches 430 pounds." When the Tigers need a change of pace, they can turn to sophomore Keiland Williams, who had a highlight-reel, 67-yard TD run against Virginia Tech, or diminutive speedster Trindon Holliday. The 5-5, 160-pound Holliday averages 9.3 yards every time he touches the ball (352 yards on 38 carries). Brooks said the LSU offense takes on an entirely different dimension when Holliday is in the backfield. "They'll do things with him that they won't do with the other guys, and when he's in the game, you better assume he's going to get the ball most of the time," Brooks said. Then there are the quarterbacks. While neither Flynn nor Perrilloux is as gifted physically as Russell, they have provided the LSU attack with a reliable two-headed monster. Flynn is a good game manager who has thrown for 817 yards and four TDs, and he can run it a little despite battling through an injury. Perrilloux allows the Tigers to use more option looks and averages 5.4 yards per carry. And he's not one-dimensional, with six TD passes on just 38 attempts. The LSU offense will also be bolstered by the expected return of its top receiver, senior Early Doucet, who returned to practice this week after missing four games because of an injury. So while the Tigers offense might not have a smorgasbord of No. 1 draft picks, they have enough weaponry to test the UK defense for four quarters. "You've got to be prepared for a lot of different things," Brooks said. "They rotate the quarterbacks, and both do some good things. Barber Shop Sports Talk with the Sports Diva on College Football game of the Week

And they've got a special package for the little waterbug (Holliday). It also looks like Doucet will play, but you look at their offense and they haven't missed a beat without him." Game-time decisions on Little, Williams Brooks said it will be a game-time decision on senior running back Rafael Little (thigh bruise) and junior strongside linebacker Johnny Williams (foot). The Sports Diva and I talked about the Dallas Cowboys win over Buffalo Bills. We had a chance to talk with Cowboys Linebacker Brady James and Kicker Nick Folk. We also talked about this weeks key matchups in the NFL. Meanwhile here is a great article about this weeks showdown at Texas Stadium from our good friend Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. Brian Stewart, the Cowboys' defensive coordinator, has been asked numerous times this week how to handle New England quarterback Tom Brady. Each time, Stewart remained calm in describing what needs to be done. Pressure, which leads to sacks, which leads to hurried throws, which leads to interceptions is what the Cowboys need to do against Brady on Sunday. It's something Stewart and coach Wade Phillips have preached the moment they arrived at Valley Ranch. Brady is a quarterback who wants to know everything on the field. If the pressure is coming from the right side, he wants to know about it. Stewart said the Cowboys don't want to be tricky because they don't want to confuse themselves. Instead, as Stewart said the other day, "We're going to just do what we do." That's normally rush four then mix in an Anthony Spencer as a fifth rusher. Don't be surprised to see a cornerback blitz from Nate Jones, which has occurred several times this season. So if you think all this won't affect Brady, remember, he's 1-1 against Phillips in his career. Last year, he threw three interceptions and was sacked twice in a playoff victory over San Diego, whose defense was coached by Phillips. What's more, Brady compiled a career-playoff low 57.6 quarterback rating. There has been all this talk about what Patriots coach Bill Belichick is going to do against Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. But what is Phillips going to do against Brady Marvin WInans "Alone But Not Alone" with Mother Bakker and Cedric Bailey on Rejoice Musical Soul Food.

We also had an opportunity to talk with Prairie View Coach Henry Frazier. Listen to the podcast for the SWAC update. Could this be the year that Prairie View defeats the Tigers of GSU? State Fair Classic to honor Robinson Ex-Grambling coach to be remembered before State Fair Classic 09:13 PM CDT on Monday, September 24, 2007
The legendary, late Eddie Robinson coached his final game at the Cotton Bowl a decade ago, on Oct. 4, 1997. "Long live Dallas and the football fans," Robinson said then. "I am aware of the fact Eddie Robinson has had a good life in football, and I am a lucky man." Saturday, Dallas will honor Robinson's memory at the annual Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic between Prairie View A&M and Robinson's Grambling State. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
His Tigers' 33-6 victory over Prairie View in 1997 was the 407th win of his career. He finished with 408, a national record when he retired at the end of the 1997 season after 57 seasons. Dallas mayor Tom Leppert will present Robinson's widow, Doris, with a ceremonial award during Saturday's pregame show. She will be escorted by former Grambling player and coach Doug Williams, the former NFL Super Bowl MVP. The Grambling and Prairie View bands, best known for their halftime battles, will perform together before the game to honor "Coach Rob." "Coach Robinson, what he was able to do at Grambling is remarkable, and I don't think you'll ever see that again," said Rod Broadway, the first-year Grambling coach. "He's probably 40 or 50 years ahead of his time of how he was able to build that program, take a little, small town in northern Louisiana and put it on the national map." As usual, Prairie View will be the underdog Saturday, having lost 19 straight to Grambling. Grambling won 53-7 last year and has scored 50 or more points each of the last four meetings. Grambling is 2-1 with wins over Alcorn State and Alabama A&M and a 34-10 loss at Pittsburgh. Prairie View is 2-1 with wins over Texas Southern and North Carolina A&T and a 12-2 loss last week to Southern. Broadway, who came from North Carolina Centraland and is experiencing his first State Fair Classic, said the Tigers' dominance in the series doesn't affect Saturday's game. That's something fourth-year Prairie View coach Henry Frazier III, who touted the program's rebuilding efforts, stressed Monday. "We promise you," he said, "this year, you're not going to leave after halftime." Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic: Prairie View A&M (2-1) vs. Grambling State (2-1), 6 p.m. Saturday, Cotton Bowl (pregame festivities start at 5:15) Jena 6 Update on Rejoice Musical Soul Food with Pastor Frederick Haynes on the trip to Louisana

DETAILS ABOUT THE JENA 6 CASE This all began September 2006, when Black students challenged the school official about being able to sit under the WHITE TREE in the school yard! The official reportedly told the kids to feel free to sit wherever they wanted. The day after the black kids sat under the tree, three hangman’s nooses were found hanging from the tree. The three white students responsible for hanging nooses in a tree in the school courtyard were punished with a few days of in-school suspension. The noose incident was dismissed as a childish prank. The following day, black students staged a spontaneous protest rally under the tree where the nooses had been discovered. Several black male athletes took the lead in this protest.….the same students who were eventually accused of attacking Justin Barker. Shortly after that incident, District Attorney Reed Walters addressed an emergency school assembly called in response to the spontaneous student protest. With a dozen fully uniformed (and I’m assuming, armed) police officers in the auditorium, Walters warned protest organizers that with a stroke of his pen he could take their lives away. Walters has admitted under oath that he made this remark. His words were not aimed at the entire student body, nor at black students in general, he was speaking to the student athletes we now call the Jena 6. After the demonstration under the tree, Robert Bailey, Carwin Jones, Mychal Bell, Theodore Shaw, Jesse Beard and Bryant Ray Purvis became notorious. In signed statements, several white and black students mentioned a series of verbal altercations during the lunch hour preceding the attack on Justin Barker. The trash-talking was directly related to a fight at the Fair Barn three days earlier. On that occasion, Robert Bailey and a few of his friends were invited to an all-white student party by some of their white friends. When Robert entered the building, he was punched in the face by a 22 year-old white male. In seconds, Robert was assaulted with beer bottles, punches and kicks in a virtual mirror image of the altercation at the high school three days later. The only differences were that the identity of the instigator in the Fair Barn incident was undisputed and that Robert remained conscious after the initial blow and was thus able to minimize the impact of the attack. The following morning, Robert Bailey and two of the friends who had come to his aid during the Fair Barn assault were leaving a local convenience store when they encountered one of the country white males who had jumped Robert the night before. Fearing retaliation, the boy retreated to his truck and pulled out a pump-action, pistol-grip shotgun that looks like something the Terminator might have fancied. When Robert and his friends wrestled the weapon away from their would-be assailant they were charged with assault and theft. Once again, Jena’s New Jim Crow regime was reinforced. The violent assault at the Fair Barn, the convenience store incident, and the assault at the school followed in the wake of a traumatic school fire in late November. Everyone associated with the school was in a state of shock akin to post traumatic stress syndrome. Concerned by the wave of violence, several teachers asked administrators not to reopen the school the Monday morning of the assault. Student statements suggest that the student who attacked Justin Barker was responding to taunts that Robert Bailey “had his butt kicked” at the Fair Barn. In the course of this verbal jousting, several students report that Justin Barker “got up in Mychal’s face” and gave Mychal the finger. Tony Knapp, one of three boys who admitted to hanging nooses earlier in the school year, was also involved in this lunch hour altercation. At trial, District Attorney Reed Walters created the misleading impression that Barker was attacked by black thugs looking for a random white victim. He knew better… * Several eyewitnesses recall that the initial punch was preceded by the shouted words, “This will teach you to run your mother f***ing mouth.” This statement, repeated by too many witnesses to be seriously doubted, makes no sense apart from the trash talking described in student statements. Justin Cooper was the only witness at trial to testify that Mychal Bell kicked Justin Barker as the victim lay unconscious on the ground. Since Justin Cooper was one of the boys who admitted to hanging the nooses at Jena High School, is he a reliable witness? Jessica Hooter was one of four trial witnesses who identified Mychal as the person who threw the first punch at Justin Barker. Two days after the assault occurred, Jessica was unable to identify the initial attacker. But as she explained at trial, “After I thought about it more, I remembered more.”
The single male juror graduated from High School with Justin Barker’s father. There was very shady and conflicting witness testimony about who threw the punch and who instigated the fight. Last but not least, the public defender, who represented Mychal Bell, who is black, never called a single witness in his defense, in fact, the parents were not even allowed into the court room until the verdict was in. We need to become the Freedom Writers, Freedom callers, Freedom Marchers, and Freedom donators, because too many black, brown, and poor white people are getting the shaft in this so-called justice system! On Thursday NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made a decision to fine the coach $500,000 & the New England Patriots $250,000. The Sports Diva and I are not happy with the decision of the NFL. WTAL Rick Henderson joined us to voice his concerns on this decision.. We have attached an article from the Boston Herald and photo's from friday newspaper. Be sure to read this article and send us your comments on this story. The New England Patriots [team stats] coach Bill Belichick tried again today to move on from the sideline spying scandal in which he was fined $500,000 and ordered to forfeit a top draft choice — the latest misstep in a year of distractions for the coach who preaches about avoiding them. "It’s over, and we’re moving on," Belichick said. "All my energy and focus and attention is on the San Diego Chargers and that game." NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Thursday night that he would fine Belichick the maximum amount and dock the team $250,000 and a first-round draft pick next year (or a lesser pick if the Patriots miss the playoffs). It was the biggest fine ever for a coach and would be the first time in NFL history a first-round draft pick has been confiscated as a penalty. In doing so, Goodell branded the Patriots as cheaters. "This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field," the commissioner wrote in a letter to the team. Belichick was peppered with questions on the scandal again Friday. But this time he seemed bemused by the repeated attempts to get him to expand on his earlier statement in which he accepted "full responsibility for the actions" that led to the punishment. "It doesn’t matter. It already happened," he said. "So right now we’re focusing on what’s ahead of us." For Belichick, it is what it was. Others weren’t ready to put it in the past. "Really, a sad day for the NFL," Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said after practice Friday. "It’s another case of the 99 percent good things that are happening being overshadowed by 1 percent bad. Again, people aren’t talking about our product, they’re talking about a negative incident." It’s been that way all year for Belichick. His marriage broke up after he was named as the other man in a New Jersey divorce that set the gossip columns atwitter. Former linebacker Ted Johnson accused Belichick of overruling the doctors and sending him back onto the field too soon after a concussion. And that’s not to mention the loss to the Colts in the AFC championship, a game in which the Patriots had a 15-point lead at halftime. The Colts went on to beat the overmatched Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl, a victory that could have given Belichick his fourth NFL title in six years. "All I know is there better not be an asterisk by any of the Super Bowls I was with them," said Christian Fauria, a tight end on the 2003 and 2004 title teams, who is now with the Carolina Panthers. "I better call my wife and tell her to put (my rings) in a safe." The Patriots locker room was busy Friday with players at the dominoes table or shooting baskets with balls made of athletic tape. Fullback Heath Evans [stats] joked about taking up a collection to pay Belichick’s fine, but turned serious when asked whether the scandal would tarnish the team’s accomplishments. "This organization’s success speaks for itself," Evans said. "I view Bill in my own way, and that’s as my head coach and a man I really respect." Be sure to find our what ASU is planning in Boone N.C for this weekend game. Appalachian State Rule” Makes Mountaineers Eligible for AP Poll
September 6, 2007 - BOONE, N.C. — The Associated Press announced Thursday that, beginning next week, all Division I teams will be eligible to receive votes in the AP top 25 college football poll. Prior to the enactment of the “Appalachian State Rule,” only NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS — formerly Division I-A) members were able to be considered for inclusion in the 71-year-old poll. However, following Appalachian’s stunning 34-32 triumph over No. 5 Michigan last Saturday, many voters expressed an interest in including the Mountaineers, a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS — formerly Division I-AA) on their ballots. The AP decided to make the change because teams that show they can compete with big-time squads on the field should have a chance to be recognized with them in the top 25, sports editor Terry Taylor said. “Why not? The poll was always intended to measure teams that compete against each other, regardless of division, based solely on on-field performance,” she said. “It was that way long before Division I was divided into I-A and I-AA in 1978.” “It’s great they opened the door,” ASU head coach Jerry Moore told the AP. “Certainly we’re not going to be the No. 1 team in the country. We know that. We’re not even going to be in the top 10. But if you have a win over a nice football team, I like that it’s not out of the realm of possibility for a school like us to be one of the top 20 or 25 teams in the country.” “It shows what a team can do when it believes,” senior cornerback Jerome Touchstone said. “We believed in ourselves at Michigan and, as a team, we’ve changed the way that a lot of people think about us and about the football that we play at our level.” Appalachian is the unanimous No. 1 team in both major FCS polls — by The Sports Network (media) and the FCS coaches’ poll. ASU returns to action on Saturday when it opens the home portion of its 2007 schedule versus longtime rival Lenoir-Rhyne at sold-out Kidd Brewer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Week 1 on the NFL with the Sports Diva and Bobby "O" on Barber Shop Sports Talk with Cedric Bailey.

You know I love working in film and TV, 'oh yeah', they pay the bills! And I l simply love California, heat waves and all. I have some very exciting projects coming up. It is truly a joy working with a comedic genius like Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm and I have a very interesting role in the soon to be released film comedy Good Luck Chuck starring Jessica Alba and Dane Cook. I also recently wrapped the shooting of my role in another film comedy entitled Semi-Pro, starring Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson and Andre (3000) Benjamin, which is scheduled for release in February, 2008. It is an honor and a pleasure working with such seasoned actors as myself, and it is truly understandable why they are called A-list talent. On Friday August 31 each NFL Team will have to reduce their rooster to a 53 man team. Jacksonville has released Byron Leftwich. The associated press has written the following article. Be sure to listen to the podcast to getting the real story with the Sports Diva and Bobby O. Leftwich expected to be released or traded; Garrard named starter
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are parting ways with quarterback Byron Leftwich after four frustrating, injury-filled seasons. Coach Jack Del Rio said the team plans to trade or release the former first-round draft pick. Del Rio also named mobile backup David Garrard his starter heading into next week's season opener, believing Garrard gives the team a better chance to win. Trying to move Leftwich The Jaguars officially named David Garrard the starting quarterback on Friday, and will now turn their attention toward trying to trade Byron Leftwich prior to Saturday’s 6 p.m. ET deadline for reducing roster's to 53 players. "We’ve gone through the offseason, training camp and the preseason with Byron as our starter, but after thorough ongoing evaluation of the entire body of work, we have made the decision that David gives us the best chance to win," head coach Jack Del Rio said. More: Jaguars.com "I had been contemplating this for awhile, and I just wanted to make sure I did the right thing," said Del Rio. "It came down to me believeing that David was the right person to lead this team." Garrard outplayed Leftwich in the preseason, completing 36-of-47 passes for 456 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a score. But his numbers came primarily against second-team defenses. "It's bittersweet news," said Garrard, who has started 18 games in five years as a backup in Jacksonville. "I'm definitely shocked. I didn't see this happening. I'm beyond shocked. I really feel like this is a dream, but I know it's not and I know I'm ready." Leftwich, who missed 10 games last season because of an ankle injury, was 19-of-38 passing for 226 yards and a touchdown in three preseason games. He misfired on several passes, badly overthrew Dennis Northcutt on two deep routes against Green Bay and continued to show messy mechanics with his feet and throwing motion. Making the decision easier, Leftwich hasn't played a full season since being the seventh overall selection in the 2003 draft. But the former Marshall star felt he was in the best shape of his life following ankle surgery and a rigid offseason conditioning program. Del Rio seemed to agree, naming Leftwich his starter in February and backing him every day since -- until now. Leftwich's career in Jacksonville But it would leave the Jags with little room for injury at that position. Third-string Quinn Gray, who played well in the preseason finale after missing most of camp because of a sprained ankle, will move into the No. 2 spot. Leftwich has completed nearly 59 percent of his passes for 9,042 yards, with 51 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. He started 13 games as a rookie, then missed two games in 2004 with an injured left knee. He missed five games the following year because of his oft-injured left ankle. He returned to the starting lineup in the playoffs, but played poorly in a loss. Schefter: Strahan to end holdout, report to Giants on Monday
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After mulling retirement the entire offseason, defensive end Michael Strahan has decided to play for the Giants this season, the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports. Shefter said Strahan will report to Giants camp on Monday. Earlier Friday, a seemingly frustrated coach Tom Coughlin was taking the approach that the seven-time Pro Bowl player was not going to return to the Giants for his 15th season, but instead retire. "I have to, I have to," Coughlin said Friday morning when asked about Strahan's five-week-plus holdout. "That's been the way, not by choice, by necessity. Again, we'll work with the guys that are here."
The Giants have to make their final cut to the 53-man roster Saturday. While Strahan is on the reserve-did not report list and will not count on the final roster, Coughlin insists that not knowing what Strahan intended to do was going to affect which players the Giants kept, both on both their roster and practice squad. "He (Strahan) is very well aware of that," Coughlin said, adding that general manager Jerry Reese has relayed those concerns to both the player and Tony Agnone, his agent. Fans, want to get NFL Network? Cable operators, want to carry NFL Network? Click here for more information.
Now that he has decided to play, Strahan has four practices to get ready for the Giants' season opener against Dallas. Third-year-man Justin Tuck has been starting in Strahan's left defensive end spot and has played well in preseason games. Coughlin would not speculate whether Strahan would play in the opener under those circumstances. The Giants have fined Strahan $14,288 for each day of his holdout. His fine total reached $514,368 on Friday. Had he retired, he would not have had to pay the fine. Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press

HBCU's have opened the doors for NFL players Jerry Rice, Steve McNair, Doug Williams and many many other players and coaches. This year's top school is the Hampton Pirates of Hampton VA. On today's show we talked about the MEAC Conference and this weeks schedule. For more information visit www.meacsports.com Meanwhile here's an update from Hampton Roads, VA. Thanks to the MEAC Sports information office for the report and greetings to Mr. Lonza Hardy AD and Stephanie Credle. Good luck Coach Joesph Taylor against Howard University. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.-Three-time defending champion Hampton University football team has been picked second behind South Carolina State University to win the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference football title in a tight vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. The announcements came at the MEAC annual Football Roundup Friday. South Carolina received eight (8) first-place votes and 266 points to the Pirates’ seven (7) first-place votes and 260 points. The vote was the closest in several years and marked the first time in four seasons (2004) that a team other than Hampton had been picked to capture the coveted crown, which carries with it an automatic bid to the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Div. I-AA) playoffs. Hampton head coach Joseph Taylor wasn’t too surprised by the close voting and said Hampton will prevail and finish at the top at the end of the season. “The close voting is a testament to the growth of our conference as a whole,” stated Taylor. “This just goes to show how deep and talented the players and coaches of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference are. Besides, to lose 20 seniors, 11 of which went to the pros, and still be voted to finished second is an accomplishment within itself. Following South Carolina State and Hampton in the preseason poll were Delaware State with 219 points, Bethune-Cookman with two (2) first-place votes and 165 points, Florida A&M with 159 points, Morgan State with 139 points, Norfolk State with 81 points, Howard with one (1) first-place vote and 76 points and North Carolina A&T with 29 points. Taylor, however, who is entering his 15th year as the commander-in-chief of the Pirates knows the team will rely heavily on its defense to get the job done. Heading the defensive unit of the Pirates will be 2007 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Kendall Langford. Langford, a 6-6 294 defensive end from Petersburg, Va., is currently ranked No. 25 on Mel Kiper’s Big Board for the 2008 NFL Draft, Langford is arguably one of the top defensive ends in all of Division I. Last season he was honored as a Sheridan Broadcasting Network (SBN) All-American and a first team All-MEAC selection after leading all Hampton defensive linemen in tackles with 55. In addition, he was second in the league with 15.5 tackles for loss and third in quarterback sacks with eight. Now entering his senior year, Langford is looking to become the first Pirate defensive lineman to be named first team all-conference three consecutive seasons since Isaac Readon was named All-CIAA from 1983-1985. Junior offensive lineman Dennis Conley (Suffolk, Va.) and senior return specialist Kevin Teel (Washington, D.C.) were also selected to the first team of the 2007 Preseason All-MEAC team.

Downtown Richmond was busy again with reporters and writers from the around the country reporting on the Latest news on Michael Vick. There were protester and supporters from Newport News VA to support Mr. Vick. Please take a moment to listen to Michael's comments. The great news is that he found Jesus and had a personal conversation with God. Thanks to MSN.com for the audio feed. I also have an article from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on the Comments from the owner of the Atlanta Falcons office of Mr. Arthur Blanks. By STEVE WYCHE
Published on: 08/27/07
Trying to balance personal feelings with professional obligation, Blank said he's accepted quarterback Michael Vick's apologies - some of them have been personal, including a phone conversation last Monday — yet he's going to try to recoup millions of dollars the team has paid him in signing bonus money.
Cutting Vick now, "would be a short-term fix at the expense of our long-term success," Blank said. "We can not tell you today that Michael is cut from the team. Cutting him may feel better today, emotionally for us and many of our fans, but it's not in the long-term best interest of our franchise. "We're putting the emotions, the shock the disappointment, the anger, the once-held-hope that this was not true, behind us." Though Blank and McKay were non-committal about Vick playing for the Falcons once he's served his legal penance and earned reinstatement from the NFL's indefinite suspension lifted, their attempt to recoup nearly $22 million from the former face of the franchise isn't exactly extending an olive branch. The team, which signed Vick to a $130 million contract extension in 2004, issued a letter of demand for collection to Vick's representatives Monday. The Falcons have to keep Vick on the roster while it pursues his bonus money. Former U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young, former Atlanta Braves star Henry Aaron, former Falcons quarterback Steve Bartkowski and President Emertia of Bennett and Spellman Colleges Johnneta Cole, were in attendance at the news conference. They are all members of the Falcons Board of Directors. More on ajc.com Barber Shop Sports Talk 8/24/07 Micheal Vick has been Suspended
August 24, 2007 07:16 PM PDT
Monday is the court date for Micheal Vick to plead guilty. However he has made a change on his plea. The Sportsdiva LaToya Hardaway and I discuss the latest report. By the way at 5:30pn on friday August 24 Roger Goodell and the NFL have suspended the former Falcon quarterback.. A copy of the latest update has been written by the sports deck of the Associated Press NFL Suspends Michael Vick Indefinitely
NEW YORK (AP) -- The NFL indefinitely suspended Michael Vick without pay Friday just hours after he acknowledged in court papers that he did, indeed, bankroll gambling on dogfighting and helped kill some dogs not worthy of the pit. Vick, however, insisted he placed no bets of his own nor took any winnings. In disciplining Vick, commissioner Roger Goodell said Vick’s admitted conduct was “not only illegal but also cruel and reprehensible” and regardless whether he personally placed bets, “your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL player contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player.” Goodell freed the Falcons to “assert any claims or remedies” to recover $22 million of Vick’s signing bonus from the 10-year, $130 million contract he signed in 2004. The commissioner didn’t speak to Vick but based his decision on the court filings. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Goodell may meet with Vick in the future, and Goodell said he would review the suspension after all the legal proceedings. “You have engaged in conduct detrimental to the welfare of the NFL and have violated the league’s personal conduct policy,” Goodell told Vick in a letter after meeting in New York with Falcons president and general manager Rich McKay. Falcons owner Arthur Blank supported Goodell’s decision and said:
Earlier Friday, a “summary of facts” signed by Vick was filed along with his written plea agreement on a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge. He will appear before U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson to formally plead guilty Monday and then await sentencing at a later date. The court documents and a statement by Vick’s legal team seek to portray him as less involved in the dogfighting ring than three co-defendants who previously pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against the Atlanta Falcons quarterback. “While Mr. Vick is not personally charged with or responsible for committing all of the acts alleged in the indictment, as with any conspiracy charge, he is taking full responsibility for his actions and the actions of the others involved,” the defense team said in a written statement after the plea agreement was filed. “Mr. Vick apologizes for his poor judgment in associating himself with those involved in dog fighting and realizes he should never have been involved in this conduct,” the statement said. Vick signed the plea agreement late Thursday. “Most of the Bad Newz Kennels operation and gambling monies were provided by Vick,” the summary of facts said, echoing language in plea agreements by the three co-defendants. The statement said that when the kennel’s dogs won, the gambling proceeds were generally shared by Vick’s three co-defendants—Tony Taylor, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips. “Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights. Vick did not receive any of the proceeds of the purses that were won by Bad Newz Kennels,” the summary said. According to the statement, Vick also was involved with the others in killing six to eight dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions last April. The dogs were executed by drowning or hanging. “Vick agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts” of Vick, Phillips and Peace, the statement said. In the plea agreement, the government committed to recommending a sentence on the low end of the federal sentencing guideline range of a year to 18 months. However, the conspiracy charge is punishable by up to five years in prison, and the judge is not bound by any recommendation or by the guidelines. Hudson has a reputation for imposing stiff sentences, according to lawyers who have appeared in his court. The judge will set a sentencing date at Monday’s hearing. “Our position has been that we are going to try to help Judge Hudson understand all the facts and Michael’s role,” Vick’s defense attorney, Billy Martin, said in telephone interview. “Michael’s role was different than others associated with this incident.” Martin said Vick will “speak to the public and explain his actions.” Though he declined to say when and where, the Tom Joyner Morning Show, a syndicated program based in Dallas, said it will have a live interview with Vick on Tuesday. The U.S. attorney’s office, which has declined to comment on the case, said it would issue a statement after the hearing. The case began in April when authorities conducting a drug investigation of Vick’s cousin raided a Surry County property owned by Vick and found dozens of dogs, some injured, and equipment commonly used in dogfighting. A federal indictment issued in July charged Vick, Peace, Phillips and Taylor with an interstate dogfighting conspiracy. Vick initially denied any involvement, and all four men pleaded innocent. Taylor was the first to change his plea to guilty, saying Vick financed the dogfighting ring’s gambling and operations. Peace and Phillips soon followed, alleging that Vick joined them in killing dogs that did not measure up in test fights. The sickening details outlined in the indictment and other court papers prompted a public backlash against Vick, who had been one of the NFL’s most popular players. Animal-rights groups mobilized against Vick—even protesting at NFL headquarters in New York—and sponsors dropped him. “It is fitting that the NFL has suspended him,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. “He’s now a role model for something terrible, and it’s not appropriate that he suit up in an NFL uniform.”

Pastor’s Wife Cut needed 2,000 stitches -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BY CHRISENA COLEMAN - DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Tuesday, July 24th 2007, 4:00 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A preacher's wife needed 2,000 stitches after being slashed and stabbed by an apparently deranged parishioner wielding a box cutter during Sunday services, authorities said yesterday. Theresa Whitfield, 38, the wife of the Rev. Jonathan Whitfield, was attacked in the basement bathroom of the Trinity Baptist Church in Hackensack during the 11 a.m. service. Yolanda Cooper grabbed Whitfield by the hair and pulled her to the ground before cutting her face, neck, chest and thigh with the box cutter, Hackensack Police Capt. Thomas Padilla said. Whitfield was with her infant daughter in the bathroom at the time of the attack. Cooper, 40, was charged with attempted murder. She is being held on $1.1 million bail. Parishioners said Theresa Whitfield's white linen dress was covered in blood and they could hear screaming coming from the basement as gospel music filled the sanctuary. Parishioners used cell phones to call police. One worshiper followed Cooper down the street to point her out to police. Whitfield was rushed to Hackensack Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery. "Lord have mercy," said one Trinity church member. "If you are not safe in church, you are not safe anywhere." Police do not have a motive for the attack. One on One with Myron Williams
